BATTLE OF THE BOOKS PROGRAM for 2023-24

Jefferson is entering our twelth year participating in the Battle of the Books program and hopes all our third, fourth, and fifth will join this great program too! Our 3rd graders compete against other Jefferson 3rd grade students, while our 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate and compete against other RBUSD Elementary Schools through the national reading program called “Battle of the Books”. The goal of the program is to support students in their love and discovery of reading by introducing them to quality literature and to develop friendships between students based upon socialization, competition, and mutual respect.

The Battle of the Books program is open District-wide to all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. The 3rd grade students will read from a list of 18 titles, while the 4th and 5th grade students will read from a list of 28 titles. Students who are interested in participating will have until the spring to read as many books as possible on the 2023-24 reading list. The students may find some of the books on the list easy to read while others may be more challenging. If they’ve already read some of the books, they’ll have a head start!
